Washi Body Towel
With trees covering about 70% of land, it's no wonder that paper-making has evolved into one of Japan's main crafts and industries. Washi is handmade Japanese paper that has become famous all over the world not only for its beauty but also for its strength and durability from the long fibers and the manufacturing method. Among the many areas that make washi, Tosa, the old province that became Kochi Prefecture, is particularly famous because its paper is as strong as any washi, but much thinner, and local craftspeople have come up with some very imaginative applications for it, including the Washi Body Towel! Paper towels are nothing new but the Washi Body Towel is very different from anything else that falls into that category: it is actually a washcloth, about 14 x 84 cm (5.5 x 33.1") and made into a tubular shape so can be worn like a glove, allowing you to reach all parts of your body, including those hard-to-reach spots on your back. Because of the fibers, it can make a thick, rich foam. As you wash with it, the towel gives your skin a light scrub and massage, leaving you feeling refreshed and clean. Get it in natural or light blue, and transform daily bathing!
